Chicago State falls to New Mexico State 93-54 on the road

The Chicago State University men’s basketball team fell to 0-3 in conference play on the season, after suffering a 93-54 loss to New Mexico State on Thursday, January 9, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

In spite of strong offensive contributions from Chicago State guards Xavier Johnson (Dallas, Texas/Hopkins H.S.) and Andrew Lewis (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee Vincent H.S.), who combined to score 24 of their team’s 54 points, the Aggies offensive explosion was too much for the Cougars to overcome.

The Aggies outscored the Cougars 46-24 in the first half, led by the hot shooting of 6-foot 6-inch guard Trevelin Queen, who finished with a game high 17 points, six rebounds in 20 minutes of play.

NEW MEXICO STATEQueen’s 17 points were part of an Aggies offensive attack that featured four players scoring in double figures. Those four players included Queen’s 17, forward Ivan Aurrecoechea 14 points and eight rebounds, guard Jabari Rice 14 points, and Shawn Williams with 11.

For the Cougars, Johnson finished with a team-best 14 points while dishing two assists and adding three rebounds, and Lewis earned 10 points with six boards.

On the defensive end of the floor, Chicago State’s Soloman Hunt pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while adding nine points and a steal.

Final Score: New Mexico State 93, Chicago State 54.

With Thursday’s loss against the Aggies, the Cougars are now 4-14 on the season.
