Chicago State falls to Loyola 71-59 in women’s basketball city showdown

The Chicago State women’s basketball team fell to 0-4 on the season after suffering a 71-59 loss to the Loyola Lady Ramblers on Saturday, November 20, on the road.

In spite of the loss, the Lady Cougars applied tenacious defensive pressure against the Lady Ramblers throughout the game and racked up a season-high 15 steals and 24 turnovers.

“We have to stay in the fight,” said CSU head coach Tiffany Sardin about the loss on Saturday. “We have to clean up some of the mental mistakes we’re making and continue to be aggressive on defense, but without fouling.”

The Lady Cougars were led by the hot shooting of returning guard Ana Haklicka, who scored a season-high 13 points in the contest.

“Ana is tough,” said coach Sardin, “She’s battling through some things, but I’m glad she stepped up and was ready. That’s what we ask from our women: to be ready.”

The first quarter saw the Lady Ramblers jump out to a 6-0 run keyed by returners Bre Hampton-Bey and Allison Day.

Following the run, the Lady Cougars bounced back with a 16-8 run of their own. Trimming the lead to 37- 30, at the half.

In the second half, the Lady Ramblers answered right back with a three-pointer and a lay-up by Hampton-Bey, giving Loyola a 10-point lead at 42-32.

Although the Lady Cougars fought back in the half to trim the lead to one at 44-43, the Lady Ramblers outscored CSU 27-16 to close out the game.

Final Score: Loyola 71, CSU 59

Following the loss to the Lady Ramblers, the Lady Cougars played the University of Wisconsin on Monday, November 22. in Madison, Wisconsin.
