Bulls lose to Golden State Warriors on Ring of Honor night but bounce back with win over Spurs

After falling to the Golden State Warriors 140-131 in a tough loss on Ring of Honor Night, the Chicago Bulls would bounce back with a 122-116 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, January 13, on the road. 

In game one versus the Warriors, the Bulls scored a season-high 75 points in the first half but surrendered a 13-point halftime lead en route to a loss. 

According to the Chicago Bulls, the team outshot the Warriors 58 percent (50-86 FG) to 52 percent (49-94 FG) in field goal percentage. In the second half, the Bulls were outscored by the Warriors 78 to 56. The Warriors posted a 48-point third quarter which led to a 15 point lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

The team momentum shifted in a different direction following the halftime show honoring Bulls all-time greats. In the fourth quarter, the Bulls would trim the lead to four at 128-124. The Bulls were outscored 12-7.

Final Score: Bulls 131, Warriors 140

With the loss, the Bulls dropped to 18-22 on the season. Forward DeMar DeRozan led all scorers with 39 points. Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson led his team in scoring with 30 points. 

In addition to the Warriors game, the Bulls got back to their winning ways on Saturday night with a 122-116 victory over the Spurs. 

Center Nikola Vucevic had a team-high 24 points and 16 rebounds versus San Antonio on the road. The Bulls outscored the Spurs 35-23 in the first quarter and 28-22 in the fourth quarter. Chicago went on to finish with seven players in double-figures scoring. 

Final score: Bulls 122, Spurs 116 

With the win, the Bulls moved to within three games under .500 for the season. Up next, the team will play the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road. Game time is 6 p.m. 

According to Bulls PR, center Nikola Vucevic tallied his 9,000th rebound of his career with his sixth rebound of the game. He became the 5th active player to reach this plateau, joining teammate Andre Drummond (10,300) in the 9,000 career-rebound club along with L. James, D. Jordan, and K. Love.
