Bears retain Coach Matt Eberflus, will move on from offensive staff

Chicago Bears

To close out their 2023-24 NFL season, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus and General Manager Ryan Poles addressed the media last week about changes that took place within the team.

During the press conference, Poles was happy about retaining coach Eberflus for a third season with the organization.

“Coach Flus, his leadership through hard times. We had some adversity early in the season, and through the middle of the season his ability to stand strong and keep the team together was incredible,” said Poles about retaining Eberflus.

“His ability to adapt and adjust as we went along, he had a sudden change in terms of his role, and I thought we benefitted from that, and I thought we got better from that point, and I’m really happy for him.”

Poles also responded to a question about the end of the season: “All of our jobs is to collect information throughout the entire season. That’s on players, staff, support staff, everybody,” Poles said.

Though coach Eberflus will return next season, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, quarterbacks’ coach Andrew Janocko, wide receivers’ coach Tyke Tolbert, running backs’ coach Omar Young and assistant tight ends’ coach Tim Zetts are no longer with the organization, according to the Bears.

The Bears are looking to take their offense in a different direction after making several changes at the offensive position.

“What I pride myself on and pride our whole organization on is we take the steps after the season to let the dust settle, get the emotions out, and make the most sound decision that you possibly can make,” Poles said.

“So that’s what we did over the last few days is just making sure we settled down, looked at the big picture, and made sure that we’re going in the right direction.”
