When British muralist Richard Wilson revealed he was working on a Will Smith mural in West Philly, the biggest surprise was that this could ever have taken so long to happen.
The homegrown movie star now appears on the wall of Gevurtz Furniture at 4545 W. Girard Ave., posed in an allusion to Kehinde Wiley’s presidential portrait of Barack Obama (a pair of Jordans and other casual attire were swapped in for the Fresh Prince).
Wilson is internationally recognized for his celebrity murals, including iconic paintings of American funk and jazz composer Roy Ayers, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and soul legend Stevie Wonder.
