U.S. Secretary of Transportation to attend RAINBOW PUSH Coalition’s 56th International convention Saturday, June 18th

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg will attend the Rainbow PUSH Coalition 56th annual international convention 4 p.m., Saturday, June 18th, at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, 930 E. 50th St.

Secretary Buttigieg will participate in a fireside chat with Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. and moderated by Rev. Dr. S. Todd Yeary, Chief Executive Officer of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, who will be talking about improving the nation’s infrastructure and job creation.

In years past, the federal government played a harmful, contributing role in our nation’s inequity most notably by building a federal highway system that frequently cut through black and brown neighborhoods walling those populations off from economic opportunity.

Secretary Buttigieg has committed to using his office to right these wrongs, making the fight against systemic racism a centerpiece of his job.

During the fireside chat, Secretary Buttigieg will outline his vision for designing a more equitable and sustainable transportation system that will simultaneously create jobs, address the climate crisis and racial inequities, and reduce road traffic deaths by leveraging the historic levels of funding available through the recently passed Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act.
