The Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. recently hosted an event in recognition of the community service work the organization achieved in 2023.

African drummers, elaborate decorations, and a presentation of scholarships totaling over $42,000 welcomed nearly 500 guests to a fabulous brunch at Chicago’s Hyatt Regency Hotel. The theme was Grand Nia: A Holiday Affair of Black Elegance because it gracefully fell on the 5th day of Kwanzaa which is represented by the principal of Nia (Purpose).

According to Theta Omega Chapter and AKArama Foundation, Inc. President Felicia Stanton Gray, “Our purpose for hosting this annual Holiday Affair is to thank our generous supporters and collaborative partners. Those relationships allow us to achieve programmatic goals while addressing some of the expressed needs in the Woodlawn Community. Our long-term collaboration with the Wadsworth Elementary School affords continuity of service for the successful implementation of our Childhood Hunger Initiative Program Packs (CHIPP) program.

“We provided over 12,000 meals to 150 children in 2023. We also provided cold-weather outdoor clothing to Park Manor School students, planted 24 trees, supported Black women entrepreneurs, and led educational forums. The Theta Omega Chapter also donated more than 1,400 items to the Maria Shelter. We are grateful for sustainable relationships that enable us to continuously serve the Woodlawn Community and greater Chicago.”
