The staff of the Gary Crusader mourns the passing of Earl “Squirrel” Davis

The staff of the Gary Crusader along with many of its readers are mourning the death of Earl “Squirrel” Davis Sr. Davis, 86, died of natural causes April 6.

Davis was a veteran of the Korean War and a former employee of U.S Steel. He also was constable for Justice of the Peace Hoyt Brown.

In later years, Davis took up the profession of photography and became a much sought after photographer. Doing what would become his second career, Davis’ services were much in demand for many of the social and political events throughout Lake County. It was his eye for detail along with his level of professionalism that made him everyone’s favorite photographer.

Davis was also well know throughout Northwest Indiana and because of his easygoing style amassed many friends.

Because of his dedication and friendship he will surely be missed.

Davis is survived by his wife Sherrell Carpue Davis, two sons: Earl Davis Jr., and Robert Davis; a daughter Angela Davis; and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19 from 12:00 to 8 p.m. with family hour from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Manuel Memorial Funeral Home, 421 W. 5th Avenue in Gary. Services will be held Thursday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m. also at Manuel Memorial Funeral Home.
