A few days before Christmas families selected by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana received new athletic shoes during a holiday giveaway hosted by celebrated comedian and actor Mike Epps, in collaboration with Gary’s incoming Mayor Eddie Melton. The event was held Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Club located at 2700 W 19th Ave. in Gary, Ind.

Anticipating the holiday season, Epps emphasized the significance of equipping children with a fresh pair of shoes to ensure their success in the upcoming year. Collaborating with mayor-elect Eddie Melton and the community organization Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, Epps aims to collectively make a positive impact on the lives of young people, fostering an atmosphere of encouragement and unity.
Mayor-elect Eddie Melton concurred with Epps, expressing that such a generous act of philanthropy has the potential to positively transform the lives of young individuals. Melton acknowledges the challenges faced by some families in making the holidays special for their children and appreciates Mike Epps’ commitment to giving back to the community. Melton was honored to be part of the holiday giveaway event.
