Reverend Dr. David B. Thornton will be honored as pastor of Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church, 600 East 35th Street, Chicago, on Sunday, November 24, at 12:30 p.m.
The event will take place in the church’s Register Hall, after the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Morning Worship Service.
This anniversary celebration will recognize the pastor’s five years of service. He was installed as pastor at Sixth Grace Presbyterian on November 1, 2014.
Thornton spent most of his young years in Columbus, GA. He is a 1980 Cum Laude graduate of Morehouse College where he received a B.A. in English. He completed his Master of Divinity degree at Duke University, allowing him to become a Minister of the Word and Sacrament for the Presbyterian Church. He received his Doctorate in Ministry in 2005 from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary. His focus was congregational organizing in an urban ministry.
Everyone is invited to come out to this special occasion, sponsored by the Presbyterian Women of the Church. Elder Barbara Baker is the moderator of the Presbyterian Women.
Thornton is the pastor, the moderator of the session, and the head of staff. Elder Denise Cureton is the Clerk of Session, Elder Marilyn D. White is the Church Secretary, Elder Alice P. Neville is the Treasurer, John Mackey is the music director and Charles Kennedy is the sexton.
