Services set for WVON’s Alpheus “Insane Ywain” Fields

Family, friends and WVON colleagues will pay their final respects this weekend to popular WVON radio personality Alpheus “Insane Ywain” Fields, who died May 18. He was 57.

The viewing, visitation, wake and funeral will all be held at the New Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 2700 W. Wilcox. The viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 pm on Friday, May 24. On Saturday, May 25, the wake will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a,m. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. immediately following the wake on Saturday

Fields was host of “The B-Sides” on WVON.Fields was born in Chicago and graduated from Mendel Catholic School in 1979. He graduated from Illinois State in 1982. After getting his degree, Fields started working at WVON. He had been with the station since then.

Throughout his 36-year career at WVON, Fields has served in many capacities in the company’ s programming department, before landing the coveted role of overnight jock, and host of ”The B Sides”. He held the position for eight years until the time of his death.

He is survived by three children, his mother and brother, Reverend Cy Fields, Pastor of Landmark Baptist Church in Chicago.
