Residents of Calumet City invited to Catalytic Converter Tagging Event

Calumet City will host a Catalytic Converter Tagging Event, scheduled for Saturday, March 25, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Cassidy Tire. The initiative will provide residents of Calumet City the opportunity to voluntarily mark their catalytic converters, helping to decrease the number of catalytic converter thefts. The event is free for all residents.

Pre-registration is required. Calumet City Residents are welcome to sign up at www.calumetcity.org. Participants are encouraged to bring their vehicles to the event and to allow ample time for the marking process. Residents must attend with a valid driver’s license. Waivers will be provided for all program participants’ signatures.

The Calumet City Catalytic Converter Tagging Event is a collaborative effort between the Calumet City Police Department, the city of Calumet City, Cassidy Tire & Services and O’Reilly Auto Parts.

During the event, residents can bring vehicles to Cassidy Tire and have catalytic converters marked with spray paint; the marking will allow law enforcement officials to better track stolen catalytic converters and assist in recovering stolen auto parts. The initiative will also deter thieves from stealing marked catalytic converters, as it will be difficult for them to sell marked parts.
