Rainbow PUSH to hold press conference Wednesday, July 20, on murder of 7-year-old Jeremiah Moore

A press conference will be held 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 20th, at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, 930 E. 50th St., to demand justice for 7-year-old Jeremiah Moore who was fatally shot while riding in a minivan with his family after visiting his grandmother.

Moore’s mother, Ollie Holliness, who is pregnant with her fifth child, was riding in the minivan with her family when they stopped to get gas near the 3500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in East Chicago, Indiana. They had noticed a red Charger at that gas station.

Bishop Tavis Grant, national field director for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, said when the family began driving home, they noticed the red Charger they had seen at the gas station a few miles back. When the driver pulled up alongside their minivan, someone inside began firing.

Reportedly, the family began ducking the bullets, but it was too late for little Jeremiah Moore who was asleep when two bullets struck the first grader in the head. He was pronounced dead at St. Catherine Hospital.

“Mrs. Holliness has asked Rev. Jackson and I to join in a public demand that those who are responsible of the murder of her child be brought to justice. We believe there should be a full court press put on by not just East Chicago police but the Lake County Crime Task Force as well as state police to bring these persons to justice.

“This mother is just days away from delivering her fifth child, and now three of her children have the burden of laying young Jeremiah to rest this Friday in Dolton.

“Rev. Jackson is making a very urgent, humanitarian plea to those responsible, associated or related to those who took this very precious child’s life to come forth and allow this family to begin the process of closure and healing,” said Bishop Grant.

Moore’s uncle, Damieon Bey, said his nephew’s family had recently attended an anti-gun rally protesting the killing of children. He called Jeremiah “an all-around kid” who will be missed.

Jeremiah Moore’s wake will be held 10 a.m., Friday, July 22nd, at the Abundant Living Christian Center, 14540 Lincoln Ave., Dolton, IL., with funeral services following at 12 noon.

A Gofundme page has been set up to help pay for Jeremiah’s funeral. So far, the family has raised $8,399 towards a goal of $10,000.
