Rainbow PUSH Coalition 56th annual convention kicks off with Chicago Sky game

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s 56th annual convention will kick off 7 p.m., Friday, June 17th, with the WNBA Champions Chicago Sky celebrating Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. at the Wintrust Arena, 200 E. Cermak Rd.

The Chicago Sky team will be celebrating Rev. Jackson, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition staff and their convention which runs until Wednesday, June 22nd. On Saturday June 18th, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon (CST), Rev. Jackson and his staff will honor graduates from elementary to graduate school. The PUSH Excel orators will introduce Rev. Jackson who will talk about the importance of voting and having a diploma in one hand and a voter card in the other.

There will be a presentation by the Ambassador to Africa, a presentation of the Kenwood football team with special jackets and a presentation of PUSH Excel scholarship honorees.

From 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters, 930 E. 50th St., there will be a mini-PUSH expo featuring African American art and Taste of Soul from various restaurants and an African quilt display.

Some of the African American food vendors who will highlight their food specialties include the Tropic Island –Jamaican, Nature’s Way Health Foods, What’s Krackin—Southern Seafood; The Popcorn Factory; Iyanze African Cuisine and The Slab BBQ.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a job fair at the Rainbow PUSH Tech Center, lower level, and the library at 930 E. 50th St.

 From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be ELEVATE Digital certification training with META (formerly Facebook) in the Rainbow PUSH Coalition auditorium.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be The Obama experience—portraits in the Metaverse.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be robotics demonstrations, and from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg will engage in a fireside chat with Rev. Dr. S. Todd Yeary, chief executive officer for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, on procurement opportunities for small businesses, employment, and racial equity.

On Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Rev. Jackson is asking all fathers to join him for a civic leader rally at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters in honor of Father’s Day.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the annual Rev. Clay Evans gospel concert will be held at the historic Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 4543 S. Princeton, where gospel greats Vickie Winans, Darius Brooks and The Tommies will be performing.

On Monday, June 20th, the convention will be held through Wednesday, June 22nd, at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive.
