Progressive leaders publish letter condemning recent targeting of Black leaders advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza

On Wednesday morning, a coalition of progressive labor, community groups, and elected officials released a public letter condemning the recent targeting of Black leaders for their support of a ceasefire in Gaza.

From the firing of Santita Jackson at WCPT’s “Progressive Talk Radio”, to the political attacks on Reps. Summer Lee, Cori Bush, and Mayor Brandon Johnson, and the demonization of Northwestern University and Chicago Public School students who have organized actions in protest of the violence–a disturbing pattern of attacks on Black and brown leaders is emerging.

Positioned in the midst of Black History Month, and closely following the brutal bombing on Rafah–one of the only places that remained for Gazans fleeing the violence–this letter is a sharp rebuke of the same tactics used to silence leaders like Malcolm X, James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and countless others who have stood up for the liberation of Black and Palestinian people throughout history.
