Pageant winner’s wig catches fire on live TV

By Kerry Justice, Yahoo LifeStyle

Miss Congo became Miss Africa 2018 on Thursday night after competing in a beauty pageant held by the Cross River State Government and beating out a number of other contestants, including runner-up Miss Nigeria. But instead of being crowned upon the exciting announcement, 24-year-old Dorcas Kasinde caught on fire during the live television broadcast.

Kasinde was embracing her competitor after being announced as the winner, when fireworks appeared and people started waving celebratory sparklers around the stage. Within moments, audience members were shrieking as they noticed flames beginning to engulf Kasinde’s hair. It turns out that her wig had caught fire.

People immediately started posting videos of the incident to Twitter to show just how quickly it all happened. Some even praised the show’s host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, for jumping on stage and efficiently handling the situation.

Obi-Uchendu reportedly stopped the fire before it was able to cause any further damage. In one of the videos circulating online, you can even see the beauty queen taking her final walk on the stage after the flames were put out.
