National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa to host 32nd awards luncheon

On Saturday, October 28, the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Beta Mu Chapter, will host the 32nd annual Teach-A-Rama Awards Luncheon at the Avalon Manor, 3550 E. Highway 30, Merrillville. The event will begin with a mini Health Fair and Market Place at 10:45 a.m. followed by the awards luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $25.

Rev. R.E. Robinson, senior pastor of St. John Baptist Church, Gary, will be the keynote speaker. The Distinguished Educator Award will be presented to two honorees: GlenEva Dunham, an educator of more than 30 years and president of both the Gary Teachers Union and American Federal of Teachers of Indiana. The second honoree will be Earl H. Smith, Jr., a retired Gary Community School educator, coach, athletic director, and member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. The 2017 Community Citation Award will be awarded to Ben and Sharon Tyler, owners of Aable 2 Stow It. Since 2012, the Tylers have donated yearly school supplies to approximately 1,300 students.

Entertainment for the event will be provided by the Xinos, high school girls organization, sponsored by the sorority. Onitta Parker is chapter Basileus. For additional information, call 219-938-0417.
