Rev. Dr. Henry A. Barlow and his wife
The day Rev. Dr. Henry A. Barlow was installed as Pastor members from his former Church joined the ranks of Morning Star Baptist Church with him. The Word of God provides many scriptures to guide people in leadership roles and to help others identify the characteristics of God’s chosen leaders. One of those qualities the scripture describes is the ability to encourage others to serve.
It is a quality Reverend Barlow has proven himself to have in abundance since that day.
The public is invited to join Morning Star Baptist Church of Chicago as they celebrate his 8th Pastoral Anniversary, Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. The guest speaker will be Pastor Anthony Coleman of New Zion Christian Fellowship, and at 3:00 p.m., with guest speaker Pastor Anthony Stepney of Old Friendship MBC.
The celebration will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church, located at 3993 South Martin Luther King Drive, Chicago, Illinois, 60653.
Morning Star was organized on July 15, 1917, at 3800 South Vincennes Avenue, Chicago, Illinois by a group of 21 baptized believers, who were guided by the Holy Spirit. The General Missionary Society was organized in 1918. On April 1, 1919, a charter was granted to the Church by the State of Illinois, under the name of Morning Star Institutional Missionary Baptist Church. That same year the Church purchased the property at 3800 South Vincennes. Through the years, the Church continued to grow spiritually, financially and numerically under the leadership of eight pastors.
In 1936, the Church purchased the property at 40th and South Parkway (now Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive), the present location. Originally, the building was an auto repair garage until dedicated members and their monies prepared it to be a proper place of worship. Morning Star worshipped at 664 East 43rd Street for a short period of time during 1937 until the new property was suitable for worship. In May 1937, services were held in the new Church at 3993 South Parkway (King Drive).
There have been many milestones in the 106-year history of Morning Star Baptist Church including the upcoming anniversary services in honor of Pastor Barlow. The church welcomes the community as his legacy of faith, community services and growth experienced under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Henry A. Barlow is recognized.
