The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) voted on June 1 to throw its support behind Jonathan Jackson, candidate for Congress in the 1st Congressional District race, giving him a full endorsement. The CTU is a 25,000-member organization of teachers, paraprofessionals, and clinicians that work in the Chicago Public School (CPS) system.

“I am honored and extremely grateful to receive this endorsement as I am a longtime supporter of the hardworking and dedicated members of the CTU,” Jackson said in response to the endorsement announcement. “The importance of the roles CTU members play in our children’s education and thereby the future of the 1st District cannot be overstated.”

“I plan to go to Congress and continue to advocate for our teachers and our public school educational system,” Jonathan Jackson, candidate for Congress, added. “I thank the CTU for its vote of confidence.”

“Based upon Jonathan Jackson’s many years of strong interest in the Chicago Public School system, his track record of supporting the CTU, and his stance to improve education for all children, the CTU knows that he is the candidate we want to have representing us and the 1st Congressional District in Congress,” said CTU President Stacey Davis Gates.

CTU has fought for improved pay, benefits, and job security for its members. The union has also pushed for improvements in the Chicago schools.
