Grammy Award Winner Karen Clark Sheard to appear at Glen

Jonathan Portis will sponsor and host “An Evening of Gospel” at the Glen Theater, 20 West Ridge Road, on Friday, October 20 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature four-time Grammy Award-winning singer, musician, and songwriter, Karen Clark Sheard. She is the youngest daughter of pioneering gospel choral director Mattie Moss Clark. Sheard began her career as a member of the legendary Grammy Award-winning female gospel group The Clark Sisters. She is the mother of contemporary gospel singer and actress Kierra “Kiki” Sheard.

Sheard rose to fame after she recorded her critically acclaimed and much anticipated solo album Finally Karen, which spawned her hit, “Balm in Gilead.” An instant hit, it sold nearly half a million copies, garnered four Stellar Awards (Female Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and Best Children’s Performance for “Will of God, featuring daughter Kierra Sheard), a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Best Female Vocalist, and a GRAMMY® nomination. Clark Sheard continued her solo career with other hit CDs, including 2nd Chance (Elektra, 2002), The Heavens Are Telling (Elektra, 2003), the GMA Dove Award winner, It’s Not Over (Word Records, 2006) and her award-winning Karen Records release All in One (2010).

Also on program will be Ce Ce & Company, Praise & Harmony, K Lloyd Davis, New Life Youth Choir, Miracle Hightower, and Kimberly Jones-Payne.

Proceeds from the event will be used to sponsor youth activities. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $50 for VIP seats, and $100 for the front row. Tickets are available at Beautiful Things in the Village Shopping Mall or by calling 290-7762 or 887-2046. The admission for the different tickets is higher.
