GOOD FRIDAY CLEANING SCHEDULED

State Rep. Vernon G. Smith (D-Gary) is reaching out to senior residents of the Al Thomas Hi-Rise, 100 W. 11th St. in Gary, in an effort to urge them to sign up for the annual Good Friday Cleaning on March 25.

The African-American Achievers Youth Corps., Inc. will help senior citizens with a variety of household chores.

“If you live at the Al Thomas Hi-Rise, just sign up in the building’s lobby for the cleaning, but please do it soon because Good Friday is almost here and we need to put the schedule together in the coming days,” said Dr. Smith. “There are numerous household jobs that are very hard for seniors to complete. However, those chores are easy for young people. The African-American Achievers Youth Corps., Inc. gentlemen are willing and happy to assist the seniors in cleaning their apartments. The young men will also do those tough jobs that require the strength and energy that youth have.”

“The seniors are always pleased to see the positive work ethic of African American Youth Corps. Inc. members and they admire the respect these gentlemen show their elders,” continued Dr. Smith. “The youth feel good about themselves, because it is in service to others that they find their own worth and dignity as men and future leaders. I am proud of each of these young men. It is an honor for them to offer their assistance to the seniors on Good Friday.”
