GCSC hosts “Cougar Conversation” focused on bullying at Beveridge Elementary School

Ferguson siblings center, pose with students at Beveridge Elementary School after the Cougar Conversation on bullying.

This week, Beveridge Elementary School hosted its first Cougar Conversation focused on the subject of bullying. Students had the opportunity to connect with two stars from Showtime’s “The Chi.” Gary natives Amari and Ahmad Ferguson shared their personal experiences with bullying.

The siblings engaged in a transparent conversation with 4th and 5th grade classes about dealing with bullies growing up. The discussion highlighted topics such as kindness, empathy and understanding and accepting one another’s differences.

“Be aware of the people around you and the things they may be going through,” said Amari Ferguson. “Being kind is cool.”

The event was part of a greater effort by the Gary Community School Corporation to promote inclusion and safety for all students while creating a positive learning environment in every school. The conversation can be viewed on the Beveridge Elementary School Facebook page.
