Creative Crosswalk Design Contest

The Gary Public Transportation Corporation (GPTC), Purdue University, and America Walks have opened voting for the Creative Crosswalk Design Contest. The final entries will be installed along the Fitness Trail, between 21st Century Elementary and the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center.

Multiple scholars from the Gary Community School Corporation were selected as finalists:

  • Jasmine Funches, Glen Park Academy
  • Laila Galan, Glen Park Academy
  • Cameron Hannah, Glen Park Academy
  • Daniel Orozco, Glen Park Academy
  • Kamille Plump, Glen Park Academy
  • Matthew Powell, Glen Park Academy
  • Kamryn Slack, Banneker at Marquette

“It’s an amazing experience for our young scholars to see their own artwork displayed in this way,” said Esther Goodes, Director of Elementary Education for the Gary Schools. “And it’s even more exciting that all seven finalists are from our district. They are all winners in our book.”

The Gary community will be able to see the top two pieces on the Downtown Gary Art, History and Fitness Trail. Voting is currently open online at: http://ow.ly/Vc7C50J1KX2

One vote per person.
