A friend of Rev. John Jackson, pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, asked him if he would consider hosting a Real Men Cook event at the church on Father’s Day Sunday. He told his friend Yvette Moyo since it would be the only type of event like it done in Northwest Indiana, he would be honored.
With the idea in place and the men of the church as well as men from other congregations participating, the cook-off took place after Sunday service. Rev. Jackson said Real Men Cook was a celebration where men serve food to the community free of charge on Father’s Day.
The cooks were prepared for the crowd that turned out to taste their various cuisines in the parking lot of the church. Some of the dishes prepared by the men themselves included BBQ ribs, tips, chicken, fish, mac-n-cheese, hamburgers, hot dogs, beans and various desserts.
Rev. Jackson said although he did not participate in cooking himself, he looks forward to a Real Men Cook Annual Day every Father’s Day at the church. (Photos by Sandra Mosley)
