On Sunday, July 29th, 3 p.m. at D Performance Comedy Theater (500 S. Lake Street Gary, IN), William G. Godwin will be announcing his candidacy for Gary City Council, First District.
“First District and City of Gary residents are invited to attend to learn–first-hand–more about my preparation to serve as well as my vision for the First District and for the City of Gary. I run on a track record in business. Godwin Realty Company is a success because of my focus, drive, creativity, and integrity. My business would not be successful without teamwork and community engagement. I want residents to know that I will bring those same virtues to public service as First District Councilman,” said Godwin.
Mr. Godwin moved to Gary in 2008 where he planted roots in the First District having recognized it as one of the city’s many crown jewels. Godwin is best known as the owner of Godwin Realty Company, but he is also an attorney, a community relations consultant, and a serial entrepreneur. Godwin is a graduate of Georgetown University (B.A. in Sociology), the University of Chicago Law School (Doctor of Law), and Chicago Theological Seminary (Master of Arts).
In 2017, Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson appointed Godwin, with City Council approval, to serve as one of five inaugural commissioners of the City of Gary Port Authority, where he continues to serve.
