ComEd offers ways for customers to fall into savings during National Energy Awareness Month

October is National Energy Awareness Month and ComEd is encouraging customers to take advantage of offers within the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program to help them save on energy costs this fall.

As temperatures cool off this fall, customers in Illinois typically increase the temperatures on their thermostats to maintain the comfort level in their homes. With cooler temperatures on their way, now is the perfect time to explore energy efficient plans that can help save energy and money while keeping homes warm.

Thanks to the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA), energy legislation that passed late last year to help pivot Illinois to the new clean economy, ComEd customers also will see a credit of about $14 on their October bills. The credit, which was requested by ComEd and approved by Illinois Commerce Commission in late August, is the result of the new Energy Efficiency funding mechanism established by FEJA. The new Energy Efficiency Plan starting in 2018-2022 will create more than $4 billion in consumer savings.

Here are few energy efficient offers that are available for ComEd customers:

  • Schedule a free home assessment: Customers not sure where to start looking for energy savings can schedule a FREE energy assessment of their home. During the assessment, homeowners can receive free installation of energy-saving products, including ENERGY STAR® certified lighting, programmable thermostats, advanced power strips, showerheads, and more as well as personalized savings recommendations.
  • Save with a smart thermostatCustomers can visit ComEd.com/Marketplace to purchase a smart thermostat, which are eligible for up to $150 in rebates. The instant rebates can help cut the cost of some smart devices by more than 50 percent and customers could cut electricity costs by 10-20 percent with the use of a smart thermostat.
  • Upgrade your insulation: Insulating and air sealing your home can significantly reduce your heating and cooling costs, while increasing the comfort in your home. Weatherization rebates are also available from ComEd.
  • Save at the ComEd Marketplace: Visit ComEd.com/Marketplace for instant rebates on select energy-efficient products.

ComEd also offers bill-payment assistance programs for customers who are experiencing hardship. To apply for the Residential Special Hardship grant, customers are encouraged to visit a local LIHEAP agency.
