Clerk Karen Yarbrough Partners with Honor Flight Chicago for Second Flight Season to Salute Veterans

Cook County Clerk Karen A. Yarbrough is partnering with Honor Flight Chicago in support of the agency’s mission to honor and thank veterans for their service and is offering all Honor Flight participants free recording of their military certificate of release from active duty as well as enrollment in the Clerk’s Military and Veterans Discount Card program.

Honor Flight Chicago honors veterans for their service and sacrifice by flying them out, free of charge, for a Day of Honor in Washington, D.C., where they visit the memorials built in tribute to the service of veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Honor Flight Chicago will celebrate its 100th flight on April 13, 2022, having honored more than 9,100 senior veterans with a Day of Honor trip since the agency was founded in 2008.

As part of the partnership, the Clerk’s Office has provided commemorative bags for each of the Honor Flight Veterans scheduled to fly this season and is offering them information on the Clerk’s free recording of their military certificate of release from active duty (DD-214) as well as the Military and Veterans Discount Card Program.

The Military and Veterans Discount Program is jointly administered by the Clerk’s Office and the Cook CountyDepartment of Veterans Affairs. The free card provides veterans with discounts on a wide range of services including food, auto repair, legal services as well as health and fitness memberships, and more.

“The Clerk’s Office is always looking for ways to give back to our veterans who have given us so much through theirservice to our country,” said Yarbrough. “Our partnership with Honor Flight Chicago is a wonderful opportunity for us to appreciate and recognize our veteran heroes.”

Honor Flight Chicago has flown the most veterans in the entire nationwide Honor Flight Network, which will celebrateits cumulative 250,000th veteran to be honored at a ceremony this coming May. They are planning seven flights from Chicago in 2022 and will honor more than 800 veterans this year.
