Starting January 7, residents can drop off their Christmas trees for recycling at 26 locations across the city. Trees will be accepted until January 26.
The city will only accept live or natural trees. Garlands or wreaths will not be recycled, and all ornaments and decorations should be removed from trees. Christmas trees must not be covered with any bags before they are brought to be recycled.
Free mulch will be available at six of the recycling spots starting January 9 on a first-come, first-served basis.
According to the city, more than 22,200 trees were recycled through the program in 2020, the equivalent of diverting about 775,000 pounds from landfills.
