Centier Bank’s Gary branches provides care packages for Sojourner Truth House

Just in time for the holiday season, Centier Bank’s three Gary, Indiana branches were able to deliver care packages for 40 women in need at the Sojourner Truth House, a nonprofit that serves homeless and at-risk women and children in Northwest Indiana, through the branches’ “Charity of Choice” campaign.

Each of the care packages included a Centier bag, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair tie, cotton balls, cotton swabs, a towel, soap bar, bobby pins, a comb, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, wipes, & shower caps. The Centier team was able to present the gifts to Sojourner Truth just in time for their annual Christmas Party.

“These care packages were especially helpful during the holiday season. Personal items mean so much to the people we serve because the items can’t be purchased with food stamps,” explained S. Peg Spindler, Executive Director of the Sojourner Truth House. “People need assistance year-round and we keep a wish list for donations on our website. I encourage anyone to consider donating throughout the year!”

blobid2 1516206603394When asked to select a Charity of Choice for the holiday season, Assistant Vice President and Downtown Gary Branch Manager Dakita Jones explained that the choice was easy.

“Centier created a platform for us to effortlessly plan this year’s drive,” explained Jones. “We jumped on board with excitement and chose the Sojourner Truth House almost immediately.”

The opportunity also gave Jones the ability to not only give back to an organization that has personally supported a member of her family, but it also allowed her to serve her community through her role as a Community Coordinator.

“Centier gave me the ability to mix my skillset with my Servant Heart and not only am I managing a beautiful branch, but I am honored to serve the city in which I grew up,” explained Jones. “Centier has given me the platform to build long, lasting relationships by incorporating the financial needs of the citizens for the personalized products and services Centier provides. It is hard to find a corporate entity with a culture such as this!”

Each year the branches support local nonprofits through the branches’ Charity of Choice. Previous bene-  factors include Gary Manor Senior Home, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana, Linden House, City of Gary, Serenity House, among various churches, associations, families, and individuals.
