A Host of Gary and NWI Natives Have Presence at Black Women’s Expo

This year’s Black Women’s Expo (BWE) scheduled for August 20 – 22 at McCormick Place in Chicago will boast “quite a bit of Gary, Indiana flavor” says Chelsea Whittington, CEO of C WHITT PR, the official public relations firm of the Black Women’s Expo.

“The minute I signed the contract to promote the show, I started thinking of ways to get my city involved,” laughed Whittington. “I told Black Women’s Expo founder Merry Green that ‘Gary, Indiana would be in the house!’”

Not only did Whittington line up a host of Gary business owners to serve as exhibitors, but she and fitness trainer Tiffany Blakemore of Vitamin T Fitness will present a seminar titled “Your Brand, Your Body” on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Expo, which is the largest exposition for Black women in the country.

“Your Brand, Your Body(TM)” is a unique collaboration between invited business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs and budding leaders to learn key techniques of building their brand from Whittington while laying the framework for living a healthy lifestyle through smart eating, self-care and exercise as taught by Blakemore. The two will deliver a comprehensive discussion followed by an exercise demo.

“It has been a longtime dream to speak at the Black Women’s Expo,” said Whittington. “But it is an even bigger blessing to have so many other Gary entrepreneurs to represent alongside me at such a major affair. This will elevate all of our brands!”

Some of the Gary businesses who will have vendor booths include Popcorn World, Chef Pam Ward, Dr. LaShawn Freeman-Whittaker, Darnell Gaffney of SpaceAge Marketing and co-authors Chester and Ollette Washington, writers of “Never Too Young: My Grenada Mississippi Story.” Gary native and Indianapolis resident Santosha James will also travel to the Windy City to showcase her apparel line Hollywood James Accessories. Other Northwest Indiana businesses organizations that have a vendor presence include Grace Beyond Borders of East Chicago, IN and Stella Vi.e Cafe of Hammond.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my hometown and fellow business leaders,” said Whittington. “They are proof that we have a thriving business and non-profit community and we are taking that message to the big city.”

Whittington and the staff of C WHITT PR will be broadcasting live on Facebook throughout the weekend. Tickets to the Black Women’s Expo are available for half-price at Walgreens.
