Bishop Tavis Grant, the national field director for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, will attend prayer vigil for shooting victim in Gary, Indiana

Bishop Tavis Grant, the national field director for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, will attend a 7 p.m. prayer vigil for a shooting victim in Gary, Indiana Wednesday, July 13th, at the True Faith Church, 400 West 25th St. in Gary, Indiana.

“A wave of violence that spread all over the Midwest region has metastasized in Gary,” said Bishop Grant. “Lawrence Magnum was one of three shot on the Fourth of July. Since then, other shootings have occurred, and the community is under siege as hostages in their own homes.  We must reclaim our community.”

Lawrence Magnum was an accomplished musician who played for various churches all over Northwest Indiana.

Bishop Grant, who has pastored in Northwest Indiana for nearly three decades, said, “Lawrence was like family. I’ve watched this young man grow in my church and in this community. His life was full of promise and potential. Equally along with those who were killed were two children who were shot.

“Our community must be protected, and the lives of children and seniors must be guarded. If you know something, we must say something to save our children,” said Bishop Grant.

Bishop Grant will be joined by family members, elected officials, and concerned citizens at the prayer vigil. “We will not be silent, and we will not be held hostage by the fear of another life being lost. We must stand up as a community.”
