Bernice King to visit Gary with John R. Gregg

The daughter of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Bernice King will join Indiana Gubernatorial candidate John R. Gregg, at the Katie Hall Educational Foundation’s Luncheon that will be held on Thursday, April 7 at 12 noon at the Genesis Convention Center in Downtown Gary.

A VIP Reception will be held before the Luncheon Awards Ceremony.

Bernice is a graduate of Spelman College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Masters of Divinity and Doctorate of Law Degrees from Emory University. She has also received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from Wesley College. She is currently a member of the State Bar of Georgia. On January 30, 2007, the first year anniversary of her mother’s death, Bernice returned to her alma-mater at Spelman College to announce the establishment of the “Be A King Scholarship in honor of Coretta Scott King.”

Bernice serves on the HOPE Southeastern Board of Directors of Operation HOPE and the Board of the inaugural Regions Diversity Advisory Council for Regions Financial.

Mr. Gregg, a former State Representative served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1986-2002. He served as Majority Leader from 1990-2004, Minority Leader for a term, and as the longest serving Democratic Speaker of the Indiana House from 1996-2002.

In 2012, Mr. Gregg was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Indiana, but lost to then Congressman Michael Pence in the closest gubernatorial election in fifty (50) years. Last Spring, Mr. Gregg announced he was seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination for Governor of the State of Indiana again in 2016, referencing Governor Pence’s policies on Hoosier workers and public education.
