AACM Great Black Music Ensemble features Douglas Ewart in concert

The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians will present the AACM Great Black Music Ensemble, featuring special guest Multi-instrument Master Douglas Ewart in concert at Some Like it Black, 4259 S. Cottage Grove Ave. on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Ewart will present a series of new compositions that honor Baba Kelan Philip Cohran, John Brown and Water. The works will interrogate and challenge socio-political tropes that denigrate people who have been systematically disenfranchised! The polymathic Douglas R. Ewart has been honored for his work as a composer, multi-instrumentalist, improviser, conceptual artist, sculptor and mask- and instrument designer and maker. Ewart is a former chairman of the illustrious Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, the founder of Arawak Records, leader and founder of ensembles such as the Nyahbingi Drum Choir, Orbit, Quasar and Douglas R. Ewart & Inventions.
