The mother of a man who was shot and killed by a police officer last year is being accused of threatening the officer and his children.

Ronald Johnson was shot and killed in 2014 by Police Officer George Hernandez.

Earlier this month, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez announced a that she would not charge Hernandez because she said the dashcam video in this case appeared to support the officer.

And after that announcement, Ronald Johnson’s mother Dorothy Holmes made some statements at a rally, saying, “What goes around comes around. And (Officer Hernandez) can take it how he wanna take it. If he wanna take it as a threat, it was a threat,” and also mentioning Hernandez’s children.

So Hernandez’s attorneys are asking a judge to sanction Dorothy Holmes.

“I think the city going after sanctions for her, going after a woman who’s lost her son, is ridiculous,” says Michael Oppenheimer, Dorothy Holmes’ lawyer.

“In no way did she mean a threat. She surely will never mention the officer or the officer’s children again.”

There’s a status hearing on the issue in federal court on January 6.
