Large Lots land sale program expands to the Auburn Gresham community

The city of Chicago is expanding it’s Large Lots land sale program to the Auburn Gresham community, making approximately 100 city-owned lots available for less than the cost of a candy bar.

For the next seven weeks, the city will accept applications to buy up to two parcels of vacant property in Auburn Gresham for the price of $1 each. To qualify as a buyer, an applicant must own property on the same block, be current on property taxes and have no outstanding debt to the City, such as parking tickets or water bills, among other requirements.

Nearly 500 city-owned lots have been sold since the program’s inception in 2014. All sales are intended to support residential uses, with most lots being planned as side yards, community gardens or landscaped open space.

The popular program is a creative and cost-effective way for residents to take ownership of their communities one parcel at a time. To apply, visit LargeLots.org.
