The YWCA of NWI hosted its Virtual Maskquerade Gala in celebration of its 100th Anniversary last weekend at the Majestic Star Casino. The free event featured celebrity co-hosts Samantha Chatman of ABC7 Chicago and her father DJ Sam Chatman of 95.1 FM Club Steppin’.

Line dancing and stepping performances, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction were part of the evening’s festivities. Supporters were able to view the festivities via the organization’s website, Facebook and YouTube. Hundreds tuned in while making generous donations to help the organization reach its fundraising goal of $100,000.

“The support has been amazing,” said Executive Director Caren Jones. “Our board members, led by President Michelle Johnson, and volunteers came together, worked hard and brought a vision to life.”

At the conclusion of the broadcast, Jones announced that the $100,000 goal had been reached and donations were still coming in.

Awards were presented to Cynthia Powers of Powers & Sons Construction, Senator Earline Rogers, Board member Jahnae Erpenbach of Majestic Star Casino and Spectacle Entertainment, and Caren Jones, for their service and dedication to the YWCA of NWI.
