As the largest Level 4-rated childcare facility in Northwest Indiana, Woodland Child Development Center is proudly leading the charge in early childhood education. Today, their work and dedication led to a pivotal moment with the ribbon cutting of a Woodland Child Development Center microsite, chosen as one of only six facilities in the entire state of Indiana to pilot an innovative program for 30 children.

Scores of community leaders and supporters attended the Grand Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, April 30th at 4630 W. 10th Avenue in Gary, Indiana.

Long-time Woodland Child Development Executive Director Nina Burton could hardly contain her emotions.

“I am trying my best not to cry, but we’ve been through so much to get here, and I am just so happy that we made it to the finish line,” said Burton. “I am grateful for everyone who played a role in getting this microsite up and running. and now we are a part of history.”

Among those in attendance was the Director of the Indiana Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning Adam Alson. Other supporters included representatives from City of Gary Redevelopment Department, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater NWI, Urban League of NWI, NAACP Gary Branch, Gary Chamber of Commerce and the Black Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Indiana.
