Women’s Health Conference and Expo at the Genesis Center

Pastors LaShawn and Curtis Whittaker are hosting “Fresh Power Women’s Health Conference & Expo at the Genesis Center, May 19-21. Expected to attract large crowds, the pastors have planned “three days of Fresh Power,” beginning with “Gospel Friday.” R&B, Pop & Gospel Recording Artist Michelle Williams will be the keynote speaker. Also, scheduled to attend this free concert is Val Warner, host of Windy City Live, an ABC morning show.

Saturday’s program, May 20 will be a combination expo with workshops, a dynamic speaker and Gospel performance. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with the Gospel Opening featuring Anjelah Evans. Forgiven, Forgotten, and Move Forward, “Beauty, Brains, Breast” will be the focus from 10:15 a.m. to 11:20 on Trak 1. A Breast Health class with Dr. Anastasia Siatras and Forgiveness Spiritual Class with Pastor Brenda Burch will be offered. Planners of this session says, “master the power of forgiveness and begin to attract more impactful, positive and productive experiences and people in your life.”

Trak 2 from 10:50 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. will present a Mental Health Class, with Gary’s own Dr. Danita Johnson, Hughes, President and CEO of Edgewater Systems for Balanced Living, Inc., a service provider organization specializing in behavioral health and child welfare. A spiritual class with Dr. Laura Lea says the focus will be “Forgetting the Past & Pressing Forward.” Planners of this session invites attendees by saying, “Don’t let your past keep you from moving forward.

Many are unwilling to forget your pains and problems.” And invite all to “begin the journey of moving forward in your walk with Christ.”

From 11:20 a.m. to Noon Expo exhibits will include beauty tips by Latrice Edwards. One of the highlights of Saturday’s program from noon to 12:45 p.m. includes a Brunch & Girl Talk Panel which features Gary Mayor Karen Freeman Wilson, Dr. Danita Hughes and Dr. Anastasia Siatras. This panel promises to be a lively one. Following at 12:45 p.m. Anjelah Evans will be featured in a Gospel performance.

Dynamic First Lady of the House of Hope in Chicago, Lady Jamel Meeks will top the afternoon off as she is the keynote speaker from 1:20 to 2:00 p.m.
