Wilson to give out $200,000 to honor King

In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 89th birthday, humanitarian Dr. Willie Wilson is holding a press conference Monday, January 15, 2018, from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church, 754 E. 77th St. where he is giving more than $200,000 of his personal money to those in need.

“Somebody has to help those in need,” said Dr. Wilson. “There are so many people who need help in paying their property taxes, their gas bills given the bitter cold weather, the homeless and church outreach programs. I was particularly moved after the bitter cold weather and seeing Mayor Emanuel kicking around the homeless I knew I had to take action.

“I believe we need to help the homeless and the churches especially those that have outreach programs,” said Wilson. “I have been doing this for a very long time. We must also help the already overtaxed homeowners facing high property taxes coupled with rising heating costs due to the cold weather.”

Already Dr. Wilson has identified and registered more than 1,000 people throughout the city seeking help with their property tax bills and their utilities. “They may need the money for the bills or for food. I won’t judge them. I just want to be a blessing to them,” he said.
