CHICAGO, IL. — In support of UNCF (United Negro College Fund) and the students of Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson and UNCF Chicago present the 2025 Mayor’s Benefit Reception on Education on Thursday, Feb. 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Winter Garden at the Harold Washington Library, 401 S. Plymouth Court, Chicago.
Under the honorary chairmanship of Mayor Johnson, the fundraising initiative aims to support vital programs that provide resources and assistance to underrepresented students. The partnership between the city and UNCF spans decades and highlights the importance of collaboration in addressing educational assistance Issues.
“We are so grateful that Mayor Brandon Johnson is renewing the long-standing partnership between the City of Chicago and UNCF Chicago. Our students need this level of support more than ever,” said Lisa M. Rollins, UNCF Regional Development Director.
From 2022 – 2023, 515 Illinois students received UNCF scholarships.
Now, in its 81st year, UNCF has raised more than $5 billion and helped more than 500,000 students not just attend college, but thrive, graduate and become leaders.
Each year, UNCF awards more than $100 million in scholarships to students attending more than 1,100 schools across the country including its prestigious network of 37 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Seventy percent of Black doctors, 50 percent of Black lawyers, and 80 percent of Black judges attended HBCU schools.
