UChicago football team earns 48-0 shutout over Beloit College

The University of Chicago Maroons football team improved to 2-2 on the season after earning a 48-0 blowout victory over Beloit College on Saturday.

In the first half, the Maroons would dominate Beloit College in all three phases of the game.

Including overpowering the school 441-65 in total yards, and averaging 10.8 yards per play compared to 1.9 yards per play for the hosts.

In addition to total yards, the Maroons passing game was amazing also, as two Maroon quarterbacks completed 87 percent of their passes for 367 yards and four touchdowns.

On the fourth offensive play from scrimmage, UChicago gave itself a 6-0 lead thanks to junior running back Mike Martinson’s five-yard touchdown run. The play was set up by a 39-yard reception by sophomore Matt Quaglia and a 17-yard scamper by Martinson.

On the very next drive, Maroons senior quarterback Marco Cobian would hook up with sophomore wide receiver Elliott Grays for a 43-yard touchdown pass. The script repeated itself on the next three Maroon possessions, as the visitors kept up the barrage to surge ahead 34-0 by the end of the first quarter. Scoring plays came courtesy of Martinson (10-yard run), junior running back Riley Trettel (two-yard run) and senior wide receiver Dante Nepa  (18-yard reception).

After earning two sacks early in the second quarter, the Maroons would score again on a 36-yard touchdown play, followed by sophomore quarterback Phillip Martini’s 26-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Will Seelman making it a 48-0 lead at halftime.

Final Score: U Chicago 48, Beloit 0.

With the victory, the Maroons defense has managed to shutout four of their last 11 opponents.
