The African American Achievers Youth Corps, Inc. (AAAYC) will sponsor their 4th Annual Spectacular Christmas Concert featuring the Divas and Kings of Gospel on Saturday, December 7 at the Glen Theater, 20 West Ridge Road in Gary. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased from the participants or at Beautiful Things in the Village Shopping Mall. The admission at the door is $20.
Participants will sing a variety of gospel and Christmas songs. Among the singers are Ariana Brooks, Bruce A. Pearson, Carma Jones, Celecia “CeCe” Tapp, David Gullett, Deborah Moore, Debra Bournes, Gloria Morson, Jannie Dates, LaVonne Jarrett, Lisa Powell, Lorraine Jenkins-Cole, Mateena Hough, Michael Curtis, Pam Pruitt, Rev. Gregg Frazier, Rev. John Talley, and Tamilla Calloway.
The Glenn Theatre is owned by the African American Achievers Youth Corps, Inc., which is a non-profit (501)(c)(3) organization that operates on the Indiana University Northwest Campus in Gary, Indiana. Since the theater opened its doors in 2007, it has hosted or been the venue for numerous concerts, film festivals and events.
Dr. Vernon Smith is the founder and board president of the African American Achievers Youth Corp, Inc. The AAAYC works with over 200 African American boys between the ages of 11-19 and provides services on a continuous basis, working to assist the young men in successfully completing their high school education. AAAYC provides meaningful services such as mentoring, tutoring, counseling, recreation, and entrepreneurship skills. The organization also offers parenting for adult participants, as well as community service opportunities.
