Ms. Diamond Wright, Thornton Township, South Suburban College Job Fair Coordinator prepares for regional job fair to be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at South Suburban College Fitness Center, 15800 State Street, South Holland, Illinois. Ms. Wright says, “I am anticipating 75 or more employers at the event. As of now, 66 companies have registered. There will be well over 2,000 job seekers in attendance.”
Outreach efforts have consisted of, “we have gone door-to-door in various communities, grocery stores, churches, libraries, unemployment office, major transportation stations in Chicago, and other areas,” says Ms. Wright.
The Job Fair is targeting Regional, Northwest Indiana, Chicago, and South Suburbs.
Ms. Wright says, “I love to see my projects be successful. I have been on both sides of the table- job seeking and hiring.”
Ms. Wright further gives some advice to job seekers, “Come prepare, bring resumes, be prepared to be interviewed, dress for success- for men wear a suit or dress slacks, blazer, and dress shoes; women – wear a suit, dress shoes, dress slacks and shirt. Research the companies and be prepared.”
The Community Job Fair has a 30-year history and Ms. Wright has been involved with the Job Fair for more than 5 years and her team consists of several student workers.
Also, the Community Job Fair is being sponsored by Thornton Township Supervisor Frank M. Zuccarelli, Thornton Township Board of Trustees, and South Suburban Community College.
Co-sponsors of the Community Job Fair are: Village of South Holland, City of Calumet City, Village of Lansing, Village of Riverdale, and Village of Burnham.
