The South Suburban Chicago (IL) Chapter (SSCC) of The Links, Incorporated held their First Virtual 2020 GETTIN’ IN THE HOLIDAY GROOVE Fundraiser celebrating the Past, Present and Future! On Saturday, December 5, at 3 p.m., supporters enjoyed an hour of music and memorable highlights from the past.
Music from previous entertainers featured, Roy Ayers, Confunkshun, The Emotions, The Ohio Players, Valerie Simpson, and The Whispers. These internationally acclaimed entertainers, to name a few, were presented for the purpose of raising funds for scholarships and community programs. The event was free to attendees who generously made donations and participated in a raffle throughout the event.
The funds generated directly support programs and scholarships in the Southland community. This event procured the Emerald Sponsorships of Don and Marchelle Goens, and Sutton Ford, the Corporate Partnerships of AT&T, Sam Balark and State Farm, Audrey McFarlin Agent, and a You Trust Us Sponsorship from Wiley and Lisa Adams. “In addition to providing transformational programs in The Arts, STEM Education, and supporting a school for the blind in Liberia, Africa, SSCC believes young qualified high school graduates should not be denied a college education because of inadequate funds. Therefore, we vow to continue to educate and mentor young inquisitive minds,” said Mallory Sutton, Chapter President. Since 2005, the chapter issued nearly $225,000 in renewable Scholarships to deserving students. In a profitable future, the goal is to increase the number of scholarships and expand community programming. Without the support of the community and sponsors, these initiatives would not be possible. The hope and the desire is for the pandemic to end and the chapter will present another in-person Fundraiser in December, 2021. For more information on SSCC Links programming, visit ssclinks.org.
