The Meeting opens The West Side Theatre Guild’s 21st season! The Meeting is fascinating and dramatically compelling, this eloquent play depicts the supposed meeting of two of the most important men of modern times: Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Differing in their philosophies, but alike in their mutual respect, the two men debate their varying approaches to the same grave social problems, both prepared to die for their beliefs, but neither aware of how soon their assassins’ bullets would await them.
Directed by Mark Spencer, Assistant Director-Jennifer Mead, Scenic Design-Ann Davis, Lighting Design-Guy Rhodes.
The play stars Jonathan Floyd Moore as Martin Luther King Jr., Ryan Robinson as Malcolm X, and D’Arnaz Gaston Jr. as Rashad.
STAND UP!, engages the audience, raises awareness, and encourages healthy resolutions and actions, and targets the issues on a peer-to-peer level, in frank and clear “teen” language that young audiences can relate. The music and raps are designed to bring the message home and to continue the messages for longer, broader benefits. Co-directed by Mark Spencer and student director D’Arnaz Gaston Jr.
