The 100 Black Men of Chicago Poised to Host 22nd Annual Awards Benefit and Gala

The stage is already set for what promises to be another exciting celebration at the 22nd Annual Awards Benefit and Gala hosted by The 100 Black Men of Chicago (100BMC).

The event is slated to take place on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago. Emmy Award Winning News Anchor at CBS 2 Chicago, Irika Sargeant, will host the event which commences at 6:00 pm with a VIP reception followed by a dinner and awards ceremony.

The 100BMC is Chicago’s pre-eminent organization focused on mentoring African American youth. The organization pairs African American youth with successful and accomplished Professional Men and Women offering Youth Mentoring and Community Programs throughout the Greater Chicagoland area

Every year since 1997, the organization hosts an award and benefit gala and recognizes outstanding mentees with scholarship assistance. Last year’s scholarship winners, Nia Curry and Tyler Thomas received checks totaling $4,500. The two are currently pursuing higher education in their chosen field.

The 2019 Gala Chairman, Manny Strong, said: “The annual awards benefit and gala is such a special event for not just the awardees and honorees but also participants of the mentoring program and other engagement activities which the event proceeds support. It’s an evening of celebration but it’s also an opportunity to help make a difference in the black community. We invite all to come and share in this special occasion.”

In a city where the unemployment rate among black youth is 80 percent according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, The 100BMC is doing its part to make them more competitive in the job market. Over the years the organization has made gainful strides in its mission to improve the quality of life within African American communities and enhance educational and economic opportunities for African males.

Guided by its mantra, “What they see is what they’ll be”, the organization places emphasis on education through an Award Winning Mentoring Program, an Annual College Scholarship Fair, Health & Wellness seminars, Financial Literacy and IT/STEM workshops, sessions on Social Etiquette, and setting SMART Goals.

Tickets to the Awards Benefit and Gala are now on sale for a cost of $300 per person. Proceeds from the event will support the 100BMC’s mentoring program and other community engagement activities.
