SUICIDE SQUAD Is Not What I Expected

By Bonnie DeShong

Superman is dead and Batman is picking up the slack of taking all the hard core criminals off the streets. Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is a bad scary woman who happens to be the head of A.R.G.U.S. secret government agency. She holds in her hands the heart and control of an ancient witch whose spirit lives in the body of scientist June Moone (Cara Delevingne). Waller forms a mean fighting squad made up of eight hard core super criminals to perform secret missions protect the world by any means necessary. How will she keep them from going rogue? She has them injected with an explosive she can control. They do as she says or go boom.

Viola Davis[3]Great concept and sounds intriguing; I was ready for this movie to be really bad ass. I expected action, which there was; dangerous feats that would have me on the edge of my seat, somewhat there, and evil villains that were so scary, on the edge and just mean. While they were hard core in prison, once they were recruited they were like a troupe from Cirque du Soleil.

Sniper assassin Deadshot (Will Smith) hitting the punching bag in his cell and calmly tormenting his guards turns in to a softy.  Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) is a cannibal but you never really see him eat anyone which was disappointing. The human flame thrower Diablo (Jay Hernandez) has a conscience and won’t use his talents. Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) is a real thief and can throw a mean boomerang but I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. And then there is Harley Quinn (Margo Robbie) who is just crazy and is one of the characters that saves this film. The other is Joker (Jared Leto) who really steals the focus of the movie. When he and Harley are on the screen there is excitement, energy, craziness, and pure evil. It is awesome. Without them I’m not sure what the film would have been. Hats off to the set, costume and makeup design.

If you are going to see SUICIDE SQUAD SPEND THE MONEY and see it in the Theaters but don’t expect it to be more than a light time at the movies.

Until next time keep your EYE to the sky!
