Spectacle Entertainment gets YWCA of Northwest Indiana in hot water

Spectacle donates $22,000 hot water system to Gary facility

Majestic Star Casino, located at One Buffington Harbor in Gary and owned by Spectacle Entertainment recently purchased a $22,000 hot water system for the YWCA of NW Indiana. Spectacle also donated items and furnishings from their recently closed casino hotel, for use in the Gary facility.

In addition, Majestic Star Casino hosted the YWCA Circle of Friends annual dinner on Thursday, October 24, bringing the total value of contributions to $35,000 this year.

Speaking at the event, YWCA Board Chairman Michelle Johnson said, “As we head into our 100th anniversary year, our goal to raise $1.5 million for comprehensive renovations and facility enhancements has a head start, thanks to Spectacle Entertainment. The funds generated will be used for capital improvements to update our aging facility and will include lockers, a computer lab, carpet, paint, parking lot upgrades, exercise equipment and a new HVAC system. We also plan to broaden the scope of our existing programs and create new platforms that meet the needs of the communities we serve.”

Spectacle Entertainment acquired Majestic Star Casino in March of 2019 and has implemented a corporate “ALL-IN” initiative to support local charities and community organizations. All 17 members of the Majestic Star Casino senior leadership team are involved with community associations and charitable organizations. Executive Vice President of Operations and General Manager Jahnae Erpenbach personally selected the YWCA of NW Indiana because of the organization’s commitment to the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women and girls.

“It is our strong desire to help the community of Gary thrive and prosper. We are dedicated to making a difference as we move forward with our commitment to the area. Our pledge to continue a positive impact in our region is so very important to all of us at Spectacle Entertainment. Great things are on the horizon for the entire Lake County area and we urge industry leaders, those companies that look like us, those companies that prosper here, to reinforce their commitment to this community by matching our donation to the YWCA and other non-profit organizations,” said Erpenbach.

Caren Jones, executive director of the YWCA stated, “Since its inception in 1920, the YWCA of Northwest Indiana has worked to improve the health and education of families and individuals in our community. This is only possible because of partnerships and thoughtful contributions from organizations like Majestic Star Casino. We are extremely grateful for their support.”

The YWCA was founded in 1858 and is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world. Annually, 25 million women and their families learn and grow through programs facilitated by YWCAs in 122 countries. In the U.S., the YWCA mission is eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people.
