Solange Knowles screening at the MCA – When I Get Home

On Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 2 p.m., the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) will screen When I Get Home an extended director’s cut of the latest moving image work by visual artist and singer and songwriter, Solange Knowles.

When I Get Home is an exploration of origin and spiritual expedition and the personal evolutions required to leave one’s place of birth. Shot in Knowles’s home state of Texas, the film honors her Houston lineage by creating a pastiche of iconic Houston locations, abstract narratives featuring Black cowboys, and incorporating the work of other Houston-raised artists.

The film was directed and edited by Solange Knowles with contributing directors Alan Ferguson, Terence Nance, Jacolby Satterwhite, and Ray Tintori. Additional art courtesy of Houston artists Autumn Knight and Robert Pruitt and collage work by Gio Escobar of Standing on The Corner. The film also features new sculptural work by the artist, “Boundless Body” (2019), an 8 by 100 ft. rodeo arena displayed in the desert of Marfa, which sits alongside many architectural wonders in the film, such as the Rothko Chapel at the Menil Collection and the I. M. Pei designed Dallas City Hall.

Advance tickets for this event are available on the night of the event on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call the MCA Box Office at 312-397-4010 for more information.
