SHADOW FORCE is About Love, Family, and Revenge

Kerry Washington (left) as Kyrah and Omar Sy (right) as Isaac in Shadow Force.

In SHADOW FORCE, Kyrah (Kerry Washington) and Isaac (Omar Sy) were once the leaders of a multinational special forces group called Shadow Force. They fell in love, which was against the rules. When they found out Kyrah was pregnant, they left the group and went underground to protect their son. This put a mark on their lives, and they decided to better protect their son, Kyrah would leave the family and set out to assassinate the other members of the group who are hunting them. Issac is a stay-at-home home dad keeping their son safe.

We find that the creator of Shadow Force, Jack Cinder (Mark Strong), had a relationship with Kyrah before Isaac and really wants to find and make them pay for falling in love and leaving the Force.

There are unbelievable amazing action scenes with Kerry Washington carrying guns bigger than she is. There are bombs, car and boat crashes, and humor.

What I enjoyed about the film was the love between a couple and their son. The way Isaac took care of their son for the past four years while Kyrah was away doing the dirty work. Omar Sy was perfect in this role. His calm, loving, yet on constant alert held them together. Jahleel Kamara as Ky Sarr was one of the humorous moments in the film with him singing all of Lionel Ritchies’ songs. We see a happy boy who misses his mom but knows he is well prepared for anything and taken care of by his dad.

Other major performances were Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Auntie Clanter, and Method Man as Marcus “Unc” Owens, Kyrah and Isaac’s friends and undercover agents. They also bring the needed humor to scenes as well as a little suspense.

Even though I enjoyed the film, there were things I thought were missing.

We didn’t really have any background on who the members of the Shadow Force were including Kyrah and Issac, and what their missions were.

Before Jack called them all in to find Kyra, Issac, and Ky, were the Force really looking for them?

How many times can a man be in a car, boat crash, thrown off a roof, and shot 90 times before he dies?

I’m not sure what the script was like before Joe Carnahan and Chills rewrote or Carnahan’s directing, but something was missing.

As I said I enjoyed Shadow Force, and I loved that Kerry Washington and Sterling K. Brown’s production companies produced the film.

However, I didn’t leave the theater with a deep connection to it. As always, I want you to support films in the theater, but it will be ok to wait for streaming.

I give SHADOW FORCE 3 winks of the EYE out of 5
